Listening By Invitation

Exploring the humanity behind leadership

What is Listening By Invitation?

Listening By Invitation is an initiative centered on thoughtful conversations with leaders across faith communities, nonprofits, business, and public service. The goal is simple: to create space for honest dialogue about the experiences that shape leadership over time. Through unhurried one-on-one conversations, leaders are invited to reflect on the moments, challenges, and relationships that have influenced their journey. These conversations often reveal insights about leadership, responsibility, and human dynamics that rarely surface in traditional leadership discussions.

What We’re Exploring

Formation

How leaders are shaped long before they hold the title

Responsibilty

What it means to carry responsibility for self and others

Culture

How people, environment, and context shape leadership

How This Works

Invitation & Outreach - Conversations begin through personal outreach or interest from leaders.

Conversation - Each conversation begins with a minimum of 30 minutes, with space to continue naturally while honoring the leader’s time.

Reflection - Themes and insights are thoughtfully reflected upon following each conversation.

Follow-Up & Connection - Follow-up reflections may be shared to encourage continued connection and dialogue.

Shared Insight - Some reflections are shared publicly when appropriate, while names and identifying details remain withheld.

There’s Growth in Reflection

Organic reflections grow out of conversations with leaders across many different spaces. When people are given the time to speak honestly about their experiences, meaningful insight often begins to surface. What is shared here are thoughtful reflections on those themes and moments. To honor the trust of each conversation, names and identifying details are intentionally withheld.
